About The Event:

HKICAdj is delivering an Adjudicators Accreditation Training Course to provide construction professionals with insights about contractual and statutory adjudication. This training course will be discussing the proposed Security of Payment Legislation (SOPL) in Hong Kong and also integrating with NEC3 and NEC4 ECC adjudication frameworks. This course will be delivered by experienced adjudicators and expert trainers.

HKICAdj is an ANB (Adjudicator Nominating Body) in private sector in Hong Kong. The purpose of this accreditation training course is to provide professional training to qualified adjudicators to engage in future adjudication practice.

Course Structure:

Day 1 Edward Chin (28 April 2024): Different ADR Forms, Contract Law, Tort Law, Rules of Evidence

Day 2 MT Yeung (4 May 2024): Fundamentals of Construction Law, Fundamentals of Adjudication, Key Features of NEC Contract, NEC dispute resolution, NEC ECC HK version.

Day 3 Chris To (11 May 2024): Latest DevB develpment of SOPL in HK, SOP Adjudication Scheme, Adjudication procedures, International adjudication practice, Decision writing concepts.

Day 4 MT Yeung (12 May 2024): Adjudication Practice Tutorial, Written examination

Upon successful completion of the course and passing the examination, you will meet the eligibility requirement to apply for Full Member (MHKICAdj or FHKICAdj).

 

The course will be delivered on four days on 28th April, 4th, 11th and 12th May 2024 including a decision writing examination.

HK$17,500 per person 

Early Bird Rate:

HK$15,500 per person before 31 January 2024

Lead Trainer – Dr. Christopher TO BEng(Hons), LLB(Hons), LLM, MA, PhD, DEng, PCLL DipCD, FCIArb, FHKIArb, FSIArb, FIET, FHKIoD, RPE, CEng, CITP, FHKIE, MBCS, HKCS, ARAeS, Chartered Arbitrator, Accredited Mediator, and Adjudicator.

Dr. Christopher To is an independent mediator and arbitrator who is on the panels of various leading global alternative dispute resolution bodies. He has arbitrated a variety of international cases involving both ad-hoc and institutional arbitrations; and has mediated many international and domestic cases. He is an accredited mediator, chartered arbitrator, chartered engineer, chartered information technology professional and a law professor. As former Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, Dr. To managed to elevate Hong Kong’s status as the regional dispute resolution hub of Asia.

Co-Trainer & Lead Tutor – Prof. Ming Tai YEUNG, M.H., BSc(Eng)(Hons), LLB(Hons), LLM, FHKIArb, MHKIE

Prof. M T Yeung is both a practising barrister and a professional civil engineer. He has practised as a civil engineer for 11 years before switched to a barrister in 1989. His main practice as counsel is on construction and commercial litigation and arbitration.

Prof. Yeung has acted as an Arbitrator/co-arbitrator in more than 150 construction and commercial disputes (local and international). He has also acted as Chairman or Vice Chairman in various statutory appeal boards, as well as Dispute Resolution Advisor and Mediator in some public works projects. He also teaches at various local universities and professional institutions.

Co-Trainer – Mr. Edward CHIN, BSc, Post-Bac Dip of (Canadian) Legal Studies, LLB, LLM, PCLL, MCIArb, AHKIoD

Edward Chin is a qualified Hong Kong barrister, and he is a current member at Pantheon Chambers. He is also a current Visiting Lecturer at the University of Law in the Hong Kong campus. Edward hold various committee positions such as being a member of the Hong Kong Bar Association Arbitration Committee, and he is the Co- Chair of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch) Young Members Group Sub-Committee. Edward is also a co-opt member of the Main Branch Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (East Asia Branch).

He has extensive legal research and legal publication experience in both the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. Edward is currently the contributing author for Company Law in Hong Kong: Insolvency 2023, a case reporter for Lexis Hong Kong Cases, and the White Book 2023. Edward has two forthcoming books in Probate and Land.

Refund Rule: 

1. In the event of postponement or cancellation, participants shall be entitled to a full refund of fees paid.

2. Registrations can be cancelled up to 28 days prior to the event. 90% of registration fees paid are eligible for refund.

3. No cancellations with refunds can be accepted within 28 days of the event. Registrations can be transferred to a future date or to another participant if eligible.
